Services / Digital Full Body Radiology

When pets become sick or injured, it can be hard to pinpoint the source of their ailments without exploring what’s underneath. Through digital full-body radiology, veterinarians can diagnose and treat a wide range of health conditions in pets. Our practice produces high-quality x-ray images via the use of digital sensors, rather than traditional film, and provides pets with low exposure to radiation.

During the procedure, an image-capture device records and shares an image that can be enhanced on a computer screen. Unlike traditional radiology, digital full-body radiology is quick—there is no long wait time to process images as seen before with traditional radiology. An experienced veterinarian will then interpret physical abnormalities or changes within the pet’s body and save the image to the pet’s medical record. We routinely use telemedicine to send our x-rays out to be read and interpreted by a board certified radiologist.

If your pet is not feeling well, an x-ray image can be the first step towards their recovery. X-ray images are often used to detect a number of underlying health issues such as:

  • Bone fractures
  • Muscle disorders
  • Pneumonia
  • Periodontal disease
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Intestinal problems
  • Bladder stones

Once an x-ray image is interpreted, a veterinarian may discuss what alternatives a pet owner should take next based on their findings.

Facts about the care/service

There are many advantages that digital full-body radiology offers to pets and their owners. Digital x-rays, for example, provide pets with a quick and painless procedure, lack excessive chemicals to take and process the image, and can be magnified to diagnose the smallest health issues. If a pet moves or an image contains low light exposure, a veterinarian will be able to see these flaws and retake the picture quickly. Digital x-ray’s greater accuracy and faster process time allows veterinarians to give exceptional care and high-quality treatments to pets.
